My work centres on issues of historical representation and the uses of history in academic as well as popular contexts. Ongoing research focuses on the ethics and politics of historical representation, the nature of historians’ expertise and the turn to materiality and embodiment in recent theory debates.
I co-edit Rethinking History: The Journal of Theory and Practice and work to promote research in the theory and philosophy of history through a number of other organizations, including the International Network for Theory of History .
I am currently a university researcher at the University of Helsinki in Valtteri Arstila’s project “ Temporality in Predictive Processing .” I also hold associate professorships in political history and cultural history as well as philosophy, with specializations in the philosophy of historical culture (University of Oulu), the theory and philosophy of history (University of Turku) and philosophy and cultural theory (Åbo Akademi University).
