Who is Zeus? In the Greek religious system, Zeus is the first of the gods. He ruled the heavenly powers as a king, sitting on Olympus Mountain. Like Jupiter, Zeus was able to controаl lightning. If we compare the main gods of the Romans and the Greeks, we will find out that their powers are similar but not identical. His name is clearly derived from the name of the sky god Dyaus from the ancient Hindu Rigveda.

In Crete mythology, Zeus is the youngest of Kronos’s children, who overthrew the titans and took the throne in place of his father. He was portrayed as a middle-aged man with kind features. The main god had lush curls and a beard. In Zeus' hands, there was a trident from which he threw lightning. Sometimes he’s also portrayed with a hammer in his hand, like Thor.

Zeus cuts through the sky in a chariot drawn by eagles. According to legend, he also used these birds to torture people for wrongdoings. For instance, Zeus ordered the eagle to peck Hephaestus’ liver.
