Western Maryland Works Training Center and Makerspace is a new 33,000 square foot satellite ACM campus facility located at 37 Lane Avenue in LaVale, Maryland containing over $3.5 million of state-of-the-art equipment. In addition to the high-tech training equipment, the space includes instructional labs, classrooms, collaborative areas, and staff offices. Western Maryland Works is home to five full-time and two part-time staff, and numerous adjunct instructors.
A partnership between Allegany County and Allegany College of Maryland, the project was first envisioned in 2018 after visiting OpenWorks in Baltimore, Maryland, a non-profit makerspace serving the greater Baltimore community. Allegany County purchased the property in 2018. The facility underwent a complete renovation in 2019. Phase I moved the already successful workforce development programs offered through ACM's Continuing Education and Workforce Development area to the new county owned/college occupied
