Blue staffordshire terrier commonly known as a Staffy, is a muscular breed with a distinct broad head and a powerful yet agile gait. Despite their history as fighting dogs, blue staffies are gentle and loving family pets. They have an excellent nature with children and are often nicknamed “nanny dogs.”
While they may look aggressive, they are by nature very calm and eager to please. Any viciousness they display is the result of poor breeding, lack of training, or abuse. Having said this, they must be properly socialized to ensure their safety around strangers and other animals. They have a natural inclination to guard their people and their home, but good socialization and firm, dedicated training will temper this.
Due to their heavy musculature, they have a low center of gravity and a stable stance. They are powerful and agile, yet their small size gives them a surprising amount of strength. Their smooth coats come in many colors, including black, red, fawn and brindle (faint tiger-striped color). Their ears are either erect and folded slightly back (known as rose ears) or half-pricked and they carry their tails low.
