I am a researcher on Modern Japanese History based at the Institute for Research in the Humanities (人文科学研究所) at Kyōto University, specializing in social and intellectual history. I have written on the Japanese student movement of “1968”, socialist education and activism before 1945, trade unions in postwar Hokkaidō, environmentalism, and other topics. Currently, my main research project is a social history of the computer and capitalism in Japan before the advent of the internet.
