Today is a special day. The 17th April 2014 is not a particularly noteworthy date, I realise, but today is special nonetheless. From now there is a new arrival to the world of the English language. In my opinion, there has been something missing which could be of benefit to the 400 million native English speakers and half a billion or so second language speakers of English from around the world. From now there is an official(?) sign or abbreviation for the word ’the’.
Now that you have had time to regain your breath, find smelling salts, go and do something more worthwhile, etc., you will quite naturally be anxious to find out a little more about this linguistic revolution: so here is your chance.
