On Monday , 5 June 2023 , I will give a talk (In German) at the Naturhistorische Gesellschaft (NHG) in Nuremberg on " Historical Droughts in Europe ".
In the drought summer of 2022 , pictures of " hunger stones " in dried - up river basins went through the press . In many historical sources our ancestors documented contemporary droughts . For example , 1530 to 1540 was probably one of the driest summer decades in Central Europe in the last five centuries . I will give an overview of current research on historical droughts and attempt a cautious comparison with the droughts of recent years .
