Ripon’s renowned St Cecilia Orchestra is much more than just an orchestra. At its most spectacular it is an exceptionally fine and very large symphony orchestra, often working with top class international soloists and capable of giving high-quality performances
What a fantastic time we had playing Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet , the Schumann Konzertstuck and Strauss' Ein Heldenleben. Read the review here , or view the photos in our gallery . Many thanks and congratulations to all who took part, especially the four horn soloists (Alex Hamilton, John Pratt, Sam Yates and David Tollington) and our leader, Richard Fletcher, for his sublime solos in Heldenleben.
Our next concert, Essential Classics, will take place on Saturday, 10th June at Holy Trinity church in Ripon. One of Rossini's most delightful overtures, The Silken Ladder , followed by Mozart's beautiful Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola with Danny McCann-Williams and Katie Jarvis as soloists. For the second half, Beethoven's Symphony No 2 in D, one of his most enjoyable works.
