The older I get the more I prefer minimalistic website design with few if any image tags. Sometimes you need a logo though and I prefer to use an SVG image with transparent background rather than a PNG. They can easily be scaled up or down without losing line integrity or pixelating. There are some online tools for converting other file formats to an SVG, but the free options generally produce poor results, so I prefer to use Illustrator to do the job. Open the file in Illustrator and trace the image by clicking the small down arrow button next to Image Trace and then clicking on High Fidelity Photo for detailed artwork or 3 color or 6 color for simple clip art:
