2016 saw British Birds run the 40th Bird Photograph of the Year competition. In five of the past eight years Oliver has been Highly Commended, with 2016 being his best year yet, coming seventh. The judges were particularly impressed by Oliver’s take on the murmuration of Common Starlings Sturnus vulgaris . Shot at 1/5 second at f/11, ISO 800 at 24mm, handheld.
Oliver’s image of Red Rock Crabs Grapsus grapsus was Highly Commended in the Zoological Society of London Animal Photography Prize in 2016, presented at London Zoo. Following two winning images in 2014, his image entitled Hold on Tight was selected in the category ‘At Home in Their Habitat’. Shot at 1/5 second at f/22, ISO 50 at 24mm, tripod in the water.
Oliver's images chosen as category winners for the Zoological Society of London Animal Photography Prize 2014 competition. Titled If Only They Knew the cuddling Polar Bears (Alaska) was awarded winner of category 'Last Chance to See'.
