Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. It means different things to each of those who join. For some, it’s about making new friends and acquaintances. For other s it’s about being able to help deserving causes, making a contribution to family and society. But for most, it is simply an enjoyable hobby.
Its members are taught its principles (moral lessons and self-knowledge) by a series of ritual dramas – a progression of allegorical two-part plays which are usually learnt by heart and performed within each Lodge – which follow ancient forms, and use stonemasons’ customs and tools as allegorical guid es.
The Sheringham Lodge was established in March 1948, by a group of local Freemasons and businessmen. The first meetings took place in what was then the Sheringham Hotel, ( Now Sheringham Court ) which was situated on Holt Road, The Lodge has through the years also met at The Red Lion in Cromer, The Grand Hotel Sheringham, and at our present location from December 1985.
