Dr. Sarah Jane Edwards passed away in at-home hospice on Easter Sunday 2023 at 4:37pm at the age of 40. Only nine days prior she had been given an unexpected diagnosis of stage four cancer following a week in the hospital for suspected colitis. Her response was to state firmly that she was going to fight and to ask if she could get back to teaching her students during chemo. The day prior to her death she came home to a house full of friends, family, food, and the sounds of happiness and laughter she worked her entire life to cultivate. She was a bright star in many communities and was a mentor to many individuals. Several people came in from out of state to celebrate her life and thank her for her influence. This world is all the poorer for the loss of her exuberant passion for so many subjects and her steadfast compassion for those who needed support.
