The song was first released on Hunter's fourth solo album, You're Never Alone with a Schizophrenic in 1979. It was later recorded by singer Barry Manilow for his sixth studio album, One Voice . His version peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 . The song is said to be about Hunter's relationship with his father.
