Robert Harlow grew up in Northern British Columbia. In 1941 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and became a bomber pilot. He got his B.A. in English at The University of British Columbia and was then, in 1948, invited to be a member of the Iowa Writers´ Workshop. During the Fifties and early Sixties, he worked as a producer and then as a programmer at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Vancouver.
