The Road Traffic Act 1988, Section 3 "If a person drives a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road or other public place without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road or place, he is guilty of an offence."
A driver convicted of a contravention of section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 faces a penalty points endorsement in the range 3 to 9 points. The Court also has a power of discretionary disqualification.
A Court may also impose a fine of up to £5,000 and/or a community payback order.
