The worldwide demand for lithium-ion battery systems will increase significantly in the coming years regarding increasing electro-mobile applications. This demand cannot be adequately met due to supply and capacity bottlenecks in cells and raw materials for cells. Therefore, the re-use of batteries and the recycling of battery systems and their materials are of particular importance.
In Korea, material recycling has been practiced for several years and has been established on the market. In addition to recycling different approaches for the re-use of battery systems, modules or components are being discussed in Germany and Korea. The basic idea is to make the previously contributed value creation as usable as possible.
