Oregon had a reading crisis before COVID: over HALF of our 3rd graders weren’t reading at grade level. The latest data shows it’s grown even worse. Now 61% of them struggle to read. Over 61% of economically disadvantaged, 79% of American Indian/Alaska Native, Latinx, and Black, and 80% of our Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian 3rd graders AREN’T reading at grade level.
