We pay particular attention to the coupling between some aspects of microbial life, fluids motion, solutes and colloidal transport and mixing dynamics. We develop and fabricate transparent microfluidic devices to reproduce a confined environment (such as soil or a filter) that we observe using time-lapse video-microscopy and image processing. We also apply computational and theoretical methods to understand and upscale the variety of flow- and mixing- driven scenarios that we investigate.
