According to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), all physicians should demonstrate several key ‘leadership’ skills and qualities. However, many physicians take on key leadership roles in medical and healthcare administration without being provided with appropriate training and skill development.
In response, Memorial University of Newfoundland (Office of Professional and Educational Development, Faculty of Medicine and Gardiner Centre, Faculty of Business Administration), in collaboration with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the province’s four Regional Health Authorities (RHAs), developed the Physician Management & Leadership Program (PMLP) and the Advanced Physician Management & Leadership Program (APMLP) for those already in, or interested in taking on, one or both of these roles
Memorial’s PMLP program approved for 30 credits toward CCPE credential
