Timothy Trainer Timothy Trainer was born in Tokyo to a Japanese mother and a U.S. soldier stationed in Japan in the 1950s. He sailed to the U.S. in time to start school. In 1978, after a stint in the military and earning his bachelor’s degree, he returned to Japan to re-familiarize himself with the culture and language.
