I have been a part of a very successful startup, build engineering groups from scratch, and managed and developed engineering software. Along the way I have watched how seemingly disparate advancements were part of a broader trend and how some companies succeeded while others failed depending on whether they understood where they fit in the bigger picture.
If you like Shazam or SoundHound, you might find another app, IntoNow, interesting. It listens to the sound from your TV and figures out what you are watching. It then presents you with various information relative to the program. I tried it last night and it handled the easy task of figuring out I was watching the Olympics. Among the information offered was current medal count. Supposedly IntoNow can also identify songs that are on TV. I haven’t tried that yet but so far this is one of the more interesting
