On 26 August, Navy Times published an article on how the Navy quietly disbanded its climate change task force in March. Established in 2009 to plan and develop climate change-related strategy and policy decisions, it was shut down for “no longer being needed.” Also referenced in the article are two statements from former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis about the need to address climate change— one in his written testimony to Congress for his 2017 confirmation hearing and another in his former role as commander
