This new tartan called The Ordinariate originated as idea hatched at the annual conference of the Ordinariate in Scotland in March 2019 to mark the 10th Anniversary that September of the publication of the Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum Coetibus and the Canonisation of St John Henry Newman , Patron of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, as a Gift from us to the three Ordinariates around the world.
The Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham was established in 2011 by Pope Benedict XVI to allow Episcopalians and Anglicans to enter into the full communion of the Catholic Church while retaining much of their Anglican heritage and traditions, including many aspects of the Prayer Book liturgy and other services as well as Anglican hymns and music.
The Ordinariate Tartan , designed by Ruth Black, was registered with The Scottish Register of Tartans in July 2019 and in order to have a bale of this unique tartan woven, a fundraising project was launched on Kickstarter on All Saints Day, 1st November 2020, with the aim of raising £2,700 by St Andrew's Day, Monday 30th November 2020. The project was a resounding success and far exceeded our expectations, raising £4,786.
