Blackjack (or Black Jack) is one of the most popular card games. It has a vast number of names including twenty-one (21). In this card game, a one or more players sit at a table with a croupier. The players do not play against one another; rather every player is independent and plays against the house represented by the croupier.
At the start of a blackjack game, the croupier deals each player (and the croupier) 2 cards. One card is facing up, the other card is facing down. Only the player can decide to take another card from the deck (hit) or not (stand). The goal of the game is to get a total from all dealt cards that is closer to or equal to 21 compared to the croupier's cards. A player is bust if the value of all their dealt cards is over 21, regardless of the croupier's cards.
This may give the impression that the croupier has the advantage in blackjack, but this simply is not the case. The croupier's main limitation is that he or she cannot freely decide to take another card or not. The rules of blackjack stipulate the croupier must hit if the total value of his or her cards is less than or equal to 16.
