Oliver’s journey into sculpting started in 2010 when he studied Figurative Sculpture at The Art Academy London . Specifically, he was fascinated as to how the types are expressed through The Myers Briggs “Types” framework. In his sculpting he has set out to answer the question, “Can I express the various “Types” in the three dimensional world of sculpture?” Would
Initially, Oliver worked in clay/wax letting the “Type” emerge when working with a life model. Following a visit to the Carrara mines in Italy in 2012 he started working with marble and now spends his summers at a marble studio in Pietrasanta working under the watchful eye of the distinguished Professor of Sculpture in Florence, John George Taylor .
Outdoor sculptures around the world have inspired Oliver in his insight into people’s culture, history and personalities. “ When exploring a country I come across sculptures that tell a story about that place, village, town or city.” As he continues with his “Types” work he is keen to create more sculpture for outdoor space to tell more stories that capture the incredible people and history of these islands.
