Extremist politicians are trying to erase LGBTQ+ students, educators, and families from our schools with their so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law. We won’t let them. This discriminatory legislation singles out and erases LGBTQ+ youth and students especially trans and nonbinary Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) youth — in schools and beyond.

Every student deserves to learn and grow in a school where they are supported and can focus on learning, instead of worrying about being treated differently. Teaching students about LGBTQ+ people and history helps LGBTQ+ young people feel safe and helps all students participate completely and thoughtfully in the diverse world around us. Marking LGBTQ+ topics as “inappropriate” isolates, stigmatizes, and erases families and entire communities.

We will rise up for LGBTQ+ students and continue to fight for positive representation and visibility of all LGBTQ+ communities in all schools across the country and stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ youth in Florida.
