Narrative and informational writing. Writing for change. Writing about reading. Process is more important than the final product, but also: how do we grow our ideas on paper? Authentic reasons to write. Choice in our modes for communication. Meaningful, multi-modal composition, expanding beyond alphabetic expression. We make writing workshop digestible and take writing further, ensuring access and expression avenues for all our students.
Strong practices in literacy instruction are strong practices in all areas of curriculum. Together with teachers, we strategically plan for reading, writing, speaking and listening to merge beautifully and stack across grade levels for a cohesive experience. We consider socio-emotional learning, culturally-sustaining pedagogies, honoring translanguaging and students’ varied, brilliant literacies when we collaborate. We center students in all of our decisions because we know relationships matter most.
