About Ourselves…
SAFMA is an NGO in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the UNITED NATIONS ; comprising of lawyers, professionals and people committed to the Protection of Human Rights. The philosophy of SAFMA is reflected in its name, for “Manav”, the Hindi word for human being, stands not only for human values (life) but also for humanism (life with dignity). And “Adhikar” the Hindi word for Rights stands not only for protection but also for Empowerment.
SAFMA was registered as a society in August 1999 in New Delhi with both lawyers and social workers as its founding members. The members came together with the shared objective of providing legal aid and assistance to the vulnerable & marginalized sections of society so as to use law in the process of social development and reform.
