Close to the historic city of Galle, the estate bungalow dates back to the 19th century. Built by Mudaliyar E.R. Gooneratne as his ‘writing retreat’, it witnessed the editing and translation of many Pali, Sanskrit, and Sinhalese works. His translation of the Pali Text Society’s edition of the “Anguttara Nikaya” (The book of Gradual Sayings) and the “Rupamala” a Sanskrit manual for artists and craftsmen, were prepared here.
