Description: Bringing community owned renewable energy to south west Wiltshire
community (14406) energy (6016) solar (5016) renewable (616)
Community energy is a growing movement in which energy generation is owned not by large industrial companies but by local communities, with the profits invested back into the community. Typical ways to generate renewable energy are wind turbines, heat pumps, biomass boilers, anaerobic digesters, hydro schemes and PV (solar) panels on roofs or mounted on the ground. Community energy groups also work on combating fuel poverty and improving energy efficiency by modifying insulation and draught-proofing. Please
WHAT WE DO We raise money in our local area by selling shares which are paid back over a set period, plus interest; this money is used to put solar panels or other renewable energy systems into our community, e.g. businesses or schools. Last year we generated approximately 472,458 KW electricity and have raised over £90,000 for the community. Some of this is distributed to shareholders and the rest goes into our Community Fund for local green projects and groups. We were awarded a grant
We hold monthly informal meet ups at The Boot Inn, Tisbury, on the last Tuesday of the month, to meet like-minded environmentally conscious locals and swap ideas.
