Before you go watch the feature film being helmed by none other than Reese Witherspoon, please read the book! I have faith that Ms. Witherspoon will do the book justice, I’m also a traditionalist when it comes to reading and as such I fully believe that it is more fulfilling to read the book first to appreciate every detail and set the scene with your own imagination and boy howdy, there is much detail to work with in Delia Owens absolutely stunning debut!

Now like me you may never have stepped foot in the Marshes of North Carolina… however once you start reading that won’t matter one bit ! Owens descriptive powers transport’s you there and for me personally it was like I’d always been familiar with the Marshes. More to the point though, the story introduces us to Kya “The Swamp Girl” as we follow her life’s story. It begins with her abandonment by her family, one by one. Things seem pretty bleak until the arrival of several characters who show her kindness.
