Mother Liberty's History

Mother Liberty was first named Liberty Station in reference to the street that it was located. In 1848 it was founded as ward to the Methodist Episcopal Church South. CME was added in 1870 upon the founding of the denomination.

Although the physical location of the church changed, it has remained in the heart of South Jackson, Tennessee. The church has been a witness in this part of Jackson through Urban renewal, fires to the church and two tornadoes. The tornado of May 4, 2004, completely destroyed the church and the present edifice was built in 2007 at the same location.  The church prides itself in contributing to welfare of the community. An example of the ministry at Mother Liberty is the Mother Liberty Children Defense Fund
