I like to think of my painting as revealing more that the eye can see. I give great attention to “finding a sense of place”, being mindful of the light and colors of the moment and the particulars of the space I am in. Composing when settled on a subject or a distant scene, I then sketch quickly to really see the essence of what I want to paint, making small thumbnail value studies called Notons to further my knowledge of the scene.
