Been looking at history of NHL draft to see how well “draft and develop” model really works. Some interesting findings.
Detroit hasn’t had top 15 draft pick since 1991, yet they’ve made playoffs for last 25 YEARS! Including 4 Stanley Cups and 6 presidents trophies. Pretty incredible if you ask me. A team that definitely knows how to “develop” players.
Pittsburgh drafted Crosby in 2005 and went on to 2 cup finals 3-4 yrs later. Chicago drafted Kane and went on to win 3 Stanley Cups. These teams also know how to develop players.
