The Amidons of Iowa

The Amidons originally came from the East. They had migrated to upper New York state, and from that location they moved to Iowa to take advantage of the farm land there, and because a lot of other people were moving to Iowa. They became farmers, teachers, carpenters and all of the other activities of the time.

One of these, Amasa Chapman Amidon, settled in Tama County, Iowa in 1870. For the next 120 years, at least one Amidon lived in Tama County. The last, Henriette Criley Amidon, passed away November 16, 1990.
