Scenic Grainger County was formed in 1796 and is located in East Tennessee adjoining Knox County to the Northeast. The County is nestled at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains which are only a short 30 minute drive. The County is comprised of three cities Bean Station, Blaine and Rutledge with a population of approximately 25,000.
Grainger County is known for its historic and agriculture preservation. Tomatoes are the main commodity and these “World Famous Tomatoes” are highlighted annually the last weekend in July at the Grainger County Tomato Festival. The festival is attended by as many as 50,000 people from surrounding counties, states and even other countries.
A prominent geographic feature, Clinch Mountain, separates the county into southern and northern sections. The County is surrounded by several bodies of water including Cherokee and Norris Lakes along with several rivers. The lakes and rivers provide recreational activities such as hunting, camping, boating, fishing, swimming, skiing and rafting throughout the year.
