The  Michigan Apprenticeship and Training Association (MEATA)  held its 2023 spring conference May 23-25, 2022 in Onaway, Michigan at UAW Black Lake.  The two-day conference was made possible by our generous donors: Jack Martin and Associates, Operating Engineers Local 324, Michigan Apprenticeship Steering Committee, Inc., Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights, Michigan Laborers Training and Apprenticeship Institute, Ironworkers Local 25, Helmets to Hardhats and the Carl D. Perkins Consort

Michigan’s Office of Apprenticeship State Director, Russ Davis, opened the conference with ‘ Registered Apprenticeship in Michigan’ . Michigan has 18,576 registered apprentices and 1,232 active programs. Michigan leads in construction and manufacturing occupations but its noted there are over 1,000 health care/social assistance apprentices.  Russ also introduced his four U.S. Department his Apprenticeship Training Representatives: Marybeth Koski, Steve Long, Stephanie Vomvolakis and Michiko Alvarenga.

Both days were full of educational and informative sessions with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Office of Apprenticeship, Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, Michigan Department of Education and the Office of Career and Technical Education, UAW, MUST Careers, Michigan Manufacturers Association and The Luminous Group, followed by Christopher Swanson, Sherriff of Genesee County as the keynote speaker.
