Maximilian Whitcher is a 29-year-old multi-instrumentalist and composer. Primarily a performing cellist, he is also active as a double bassist in the classical, contemporary, and jazz music scenes. As a composer and arranger, he has been commissioned to write for the Nizhny Novgorod Soloists , Ensemble Polygon , Ariel Quartet , and the ensemble of the Musikkollegium Winterthur , to name a few.
Having grown up in Italy in a musician’s family, Maximilian started his musical education in classical piano and double bass at a very early age. At twelve he already won several regional, national and international competitions on both instruments. At thirteen, he started to develop an interest in jazz. Two years later he entered the Bern University of the Arts for a bachelor’s degree in jazz double bass, followed by a master’s degree in composition & theory.
