Mechanical steering is the ideal solution for vessels needing simplicity, precise control and a positive feel of the rudder position at the helm. Mathway steering is the preferred system for many pilot boats and has also been fitted to numerous RNLI lifeboats, sailing vessels and motor boats. These simple systems come with or without power assistance and have a service life of many years, with minimal maintenance.
Mathway RRD and NMG gearboxes were fitted to large marine engines, including Rolls-Royce oil engines. They are very reliable and we still support them.
These incredibly robust gearboxes have been fitted to thousands of marine craft, all over the world. Large numbers are still in regular use, including many over fifty years old. Relying on a simple well-conceived design, they have few wearing parts. Although no longer manufactured, many of the gearboxes in service are fully supported by Parsons Mathway Marine.
