"Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing."
The wave of sleepiness hit me this past week again. I feel a lack of energy and my eyes seem to close by themselves during the day, especially after lunch. All I think of is sleeping, like a sleep addict. And then, of course, my whole day is shot. Last Saturday, I had lunch at a friend's house and since that is a rare occurrence, I wanted to take advantage of it. I had a coffee after lunch, but I still couldn't keep my eyes open and had a short nap on her bed.
This is a good sign because it means my body doesn't need as much pain medication. I talked to the anesthesiologist who prescribes it and we reduced my nighttime dose. If the pain stays stable, I will reduce the morning dose a bit next week. Like my nurse friend said, the balance between pain reduction and side effects is the thin "edge of the blade".
