The government have committed to introducing the Tenant Fees Act 2019 from 1st June 2019. Note that the official guidance for the ban has not yet been released. All charges not specifically listed as a permitted payment will be prohibited after 1st June 2019. For example;
Landlords cannot charge higher rent in any one period to any other period in the tenancy. This means that landlords will not be able to cover costs by charging higher rent for the first month, or any other month in the tenancy.
