LIRTVHS along with The Long Island History Project has cooperated to make podcasts that pertain to Long Island’s rich radio and TV history. So far we have made interesting recordings on the Big Band Era, the RCA giant transmitting station at Rocky Point NY and colorful local radio personalities. This will be an ongoing project of LIRTVHS to document Long Island’s broadcasting past so that we preserve it in an interesting and accessible format for the future. Click HERE to hear our works.

“Distant Sparks” is the translation of the German word “Telefunken”. Telefunken was an early German wireless telegraphy company that owned and operated a powerful spark gap radio station on behalf of the German government in Sayville Long Island. LIRTVHS made a valiant but unsuccessful attempt to save what was left of that Telefunken Sayville property and then named their magazine “Distant Sparks”.  LIRTVHS members receive each new issue with their membership.
