Artist Statement:
I am interested in the cultural conditions that bury a sense of groove. I am interested in dance as a physical discipline in connection to a groove. Groove is in our bodies; it can be manifested in silence or sound, as arrangement of visual or aural rhythms, within the individual, and effervescing from a group of bodies sweating together. I want my body and the dancing bodies I work with to start with groove and come to posses and share the strength and sensitivity necessary to be available to any movement.
I enjoy working with \u2018non-dancers\u2019 who connect to their passion to move. I also relish trained dancers\u2019 use of groove as an athletic and aesthetic engine. I am interested in dances that require dancers to wade in their fears, cross through habits, build new physical capacity.
