Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a mood disorder affecting millions of women worldwide. Symptoms include irritability, low mood, or anxiety, that are limited to the week or so prior to menses. The neurobiology of this disorder is grossly understudied. My work aims to examine the role of suboptimal central nervous system (CNS) sensitivity to neuroactive steroids (such as progesterone and its metabolites) in PMDD.
