There are thousands of homeless cats in the Middle Keys. Colonies of homeless and abandoned (stray) cats form and multiply wherever they can find a food source, however meager, including dumpsters and vermin.
Unless cared for, these abandoned and homeless cats suffer terribly from parasites and diseases and often die slow, painful deaths. Half of all homeless kittens die within two months of birth.
