I received my original ham licence as a Tech No-Code in 1995 during my last year of college. In June of 2009, I finally upgraded to Amateur Extra. I had talked a friend into getting his Technician licence. He did, then a few weeks later upgraded to his Amateur General licence. He then decided to bribe me into upgrading by offering to buy me an HF radio if I did. He didn't expect me to take and pass the Amateur Extra test too. For that matter, neither did I.
