Artist’s Statement It gives me joy to create art that is enjoyed by others and at the same time lets me continue to grow and expand and evolve. I want my work to express that joy I have with the act of putting paint from brush to canvas. I strive to show this through my use of line, shape, and color. I use acrylic paint for its consistency and versatility. I do not start with a white canvas; I use colored gesso for my background. It gives the canvas a nice surface on which to draw and when I apply my paint
I incorporate photos that I have taken in some mixed media work using photo transfers, color copies, pieces of painted papers, old patterns and maps and some different acrylic mediums. I build up layers of these things on top of a painted background. Sometimes this is a layer on top of a painting, sometimes the photos become the basis of the piece. I have started displaying and selling work at local fine art and craft shows where I feature my small letter and photo collages and mixed media work.
