STILL POINT Artist Statement
The Southern Ocean meets my closest shoreline: rugged sandstone cliffs, wild surf beaches, changing tides and seasons, bringing a dramatic moodiness. A windswept coastline meets a dairy farming landscape, dotted with more windswept trees and rows of cypress hedges as windbreaks. Vast skies, with ever-changing cloud formations and a brooding atmosphere, a rotation of different seasons in one day, and the starker changes of seasons as witnessed by the land.
This landscape where I was born and raised, moved away from, and returned many years later. Always informing my artwork, my starting point, always my reference, my sense of being grounded and home.
