Karl Soukup is a chameleon. His musical interests, influences, and endeavors vary widely and reflect a diverse educational background. Under the tutelage of Symphonic trumpeter Calvin Price, Mr. Soukup began his early musical studies by laying a solid foundation in classical trumpet performance technique. Throughout his undergraduate studies, he continued to explore other performance styles including brass chamber, big-band jazz, cool jazz, bebop, free jazz, fusion, and avant-garde. Today, Mr. Soukup makes a career of various musical endeavors. He continually accepts commissions to compose new works for local large and small ensembles and for commercial projects. These pieces include classical works for chamber orchestras and brass ensembles, jazz music for big bands and combos, horn charts for corporate bands, and commercial music for theme parks and the video game industry. He also teaches privately from his home studio, and performs often with his brass ensembles, at local theme par
