One of the ultimate goals of Kalangos Foundation over the last 20 years of sustainable humanitarian medical activities in cardiac care was to contribute to the creation of an International Humanitarian Medical Center in Istanbul.
Before the war in Ukraine, we had a partnership with the Heart Institute of Kiev, providing charitable help and support to children with heart diseases. Unfortunately, this was interrupted by the war, and their cardiac care centers in Ukraine are no longer able to take over and operate on many of their pediatric patients.
In Greece, every year 800 to 1,000 children are born with congenital heart diseases, of which one third, mainly newborns, need immediate heart surgery. 35% of children in Greece are uninsured and their families cannot cover the huge medical cost. Kalangos Foundation, with Professor Afksendiyos Kalangos and his team, support Greek children suffering with congenital heart diseases by responding with the offer of their work and with economical support, when needed.
